Checker
Before you fall for a name, see whether it already has an owner.
Type up to five possible names for your new business and describe what it will do. The Brand Checker will look for similar brands at the INPI, Brazil's trademark office, in the right classes, check which domains are free and answer green, yellow or red, with an explanation.

Why the INPI
In Brazil, a brand belongs to whoever registers it at the INPI.
The INPI, Brazil's National Institute of Industrial Property, is the federal body that grants trademark registrations. Whoever registers a name first in a class gets the right to use it there, and can stop others from doing the same. So before opening a company, a website or a profile, it pays to see whether the name already has an owner.
What it checks
INPI and domain in one search.
It queries the INPI live and our own database of INPI gazettes since 2013. If the INPI is down, the database answers.
The right classes
Based on what the brand will do, it suggests the INPI classes where it needs protection. You can tick, untick or pick any of all 45.
Similar brands
In each class, the identical or similar brands, with the current status of each filing: registered, under review or abandoned.
Domains
The name in .com.br, .com, .ai and other extensions, each one free, taken or not answering.
A clear signal
Green, yellow or red, with the reason why, and a PDF report to keep or send to your partner.
Where the answers come from
Public sources, checked on the spot.
INPI trademark search
The INPI's public trademark search (pePI), queried live on every search, one class at a time, with the status of each filing.
Industrial Property Gazette (RPI)
Our own database, built from every single weekly issue of the INPI's gazette since 2013, so there is still an answer even when the INPI is down.
Domain registries
RDAP and WHOIS, the official lookups of each extension's registry, and Registro.br for the .br domains.
Nice classes
The international classification the INPI uses to split products and services into 45 classes.
How to use it
Three steps, one verdict.
The report guides the choice of a name. The application to register the trademark is still filed at the INPI.
